D3HOOPS.COM TABS HART AS ALL-AMERICAN
MEDFORD -- Capping a season in which she led the New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC) in scoring and was one of the best three-point shooters in the country, junior guard Colleen Hart (Needham, MA) of the Tufts University women's basketball team was named to the 2010 D3Hoops All-America Fourth Team on Saturday.
Hart is one of five players from New England to be named an All-American by D3Hoops.com. She is believed to be the first All-American in Tufts women's basketball history. With a 17.3 points per game scoring average, Hart helped lead Coach Carla Berube's Jumbos to their third consecutive season with 20+ wins and NCAA Tournament berths. She averaged 27 points in the team's two NCAA Tournament games. Hart scored 24 or more points five times overall, including 31 at SUNY New Paltz on November 20.
From three-point range, Hart hit 83 of 176 shots for an excellent .472 success rate. In the NCAA second round, she made eight of her 10 three-point attempts at Kean University. She also had six three pointers twice, at SUNY New Paltz and at Middlebury on January 16.
Hart also led the Jumbos with 2.4 assists per game, and in minutes with 35.7 per game. During the season she surpassed the 1,000 career points milestone and became the Jumbo program's all-time leader in three-pointers (192). Tufts finished 2009-10 with a 21-6 record.
As usual, the gym was packed with family, friends, and other NBA players to view the 2010 NBA Championship games. The winners were;
1-2nd grade girls -- Liberty
1-2nd grade boys -- Pacers
3-4th grade girls -- Lady Vols
3-4th grade boys --Wizards
As always, all teams played to their capabilities and exhibited a much improved skill set from the beginning of the season. Particularly noteworthy, in my view, is the stellar overall growth and performance of 1-2nd grade boys over the past two seasons. Though down in numbers this season, the 1-2nd grade girls showed promise. At the 3-4th grade level, it's obvious that some solid individual players are beginning to emerge.
Kudos go to all coaches for a job well done.
Welcome to season #19 of the Needham Basketball Association. The Needham Basketball Association is one of the largest youth basketball programs in eastern Massachusetts and is open to all boys and girls in grades 1-4 that are residents, or go to public or private school in Needham.
Our event format is designed for all skill and experience levels and is intended to be totally instructional in nature, with emphasis on learning the basics of the game and team play in a structured and non-threatening environment. Our events are not games per se, but game-like situations in which skills and basketball strategy are taught on an interactive basis by Game Managers and Coaches.
The program has had a single management team since it's inception in 1991 and has is greatly supported by many experienced volunteer coaches and assistants, several of whom were players in the NBA as young children.
